Who Knew Hair Dryer Technology Has Come So Far?
I bought a new hair dryer yesterday afternoon at Target. Who knew there were so many different kinds? Hair dryers for course hair. Hair dryers for curly hair. Hair dryers for frizzy hair. I had no idea that hair dryers had moved beyond blowing air out...
Will This Packing Never End?!?!

I feel like all I've been doing is putting things in boxes! Argh! I found some cool pictures today in a box of the kids when they were little. It was fun showing them old pictures, except Justin told me that my hair was "weird" in a picture when I was 15.

He said, "Tristan, mom was 15 in the 80's!" Apparently that's remarkable. Smile

Yay! My Parents are Coming for a Visit!

I called my parents today and told them I'd like them to visit me, because I miss them, and they booked a flight the same day! They're coming to see me in three weeks and I can't wait.

I miss my family. I wish they lived in Charlotte with me.

Boxes, Boxes and More Boxes.

It's really hard to pack for a move, and then try to live among the boxes. You pack something thinking you surely won't need it in the next two weeks, and then, sure enough, you're flipping box tops open, peering down into the items, wondering where you packed it. I've done that twice since Sunday. My hair dryer broke, so I was looking for hot rollers the first time. Then, Justin's binder broke, and he needed a replacement. It took me 6 tries before I found the right box.

Wipeout!

My friend Caroline sent me this link. These people think they're pretty bad at the beginning, but they get taken to school pretty quick. LOL.

He is With You

[View:http://kristinannie.com/themes/hawaii/utility/ ]

There's a time to live
And a time to die
There's a time to laugh
And a time to cry
There's a time for war
And a time for peace
There's a hand to hold
In the worst of these

He is with you when your faith is dead
And you can't even get out of bed
Or your husband doesn't kiss you anymore
He is with you when your baby's gone
And your house is still,
And your heart's a stone
Cryin' God, what'd You do that for
He is with you

There's a time for yes
And a time for no
There's a time to be angry
And a time to let it go
There is a time to run
And a time to face it
There is love to see you
Through all of this

He is with you in the conference room
When the world is coming down on you
And your wife and kids don't know you anymore
He is with you in the ICU
When the doctors don't know what to do
And it scares you to the core
He is with you

We may weep for a time
But joy will come in the morning
The morning light

He is with you when your kids are grown
When there's too much space
And you feel alone
And you're worried if you
got it right or wrong
Yes He is with you
when you've given up on ever finding your true love
Someone who feels like home
He is with you

When nothing else is left
And you take your final breath
He is with you

Living the Weekend Life

My life has been reduced to being lived on the weekends. Therefore, I live for the weekend, so I can live some semblance of a life. It's kind of dizzying to me. I've been working some yucky hours, and even though I love my job, it's hard to cram one's life into a weekend. I especially can't cram all of my schoolwork into the weekend, so I've had to put school on hold for the summer to see how things go.

Things could always be worse. I could work long hours at a job I hate.

Mothering as a Spectator Sport

First and foremost, Happy Mother's Day to my mom!

This article is interesting, and it's written by the woman who allowed her son to ride the subway home last year, alone. It caused an uproar in the media. I agree with her that helicopter parents are actually the greater danger to kids. In this society, when you try to do things to encourage independence in your children, you are always under the watchful eye and judgment of other mothers, evaluating your wisdom and competency. This is not a woman who is irresponsible and doesn't love her child. Quite the opposite.

The Lovely Bones

Several years ago I was in the airport and picked up a copy of Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones to read on the plane. It's not normally the kind of novel I read, but I was in the mood to try something different. A nice brain dead easy read, so to speak. It turns out that I really ended up enjoying the book. I just found out today that in December the movie version is being released. Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is directing it. I thought that seemed like an odd choice, but we'll see. Caroline and I have set a date for dinner and a movie to go see it. I have to shoot her my copy of the book so she can read it before then!

It's nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My life is approaching and almost in sight! I have one week left of school and I'm thinking of taking the first summer session off. I know that will push my graduation date out, but I have a lot going on at work, and I'm going to be moving soon. So far I've got a 99% in the course. w00t!

I'm pretty dead to the world. I need to go to sleep now.
