I took the kids to see Bolt today. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent 3D graphics and the humor. It was much better than I was expecting, and, in fact, it was a very enjoyable movie. Tonight's movie was Equilibrium, with Christian Bale. It was quite good. It had an interesting story and lots of action. I rather enjoyed it.
I'm highly irritable at the moment, so I'm going to bed now.
I found the best guitar website ever today. It's called farhatguitar.com and there are instructional videos along with tab and chords and the songs are broken up into parts to make it easy to learn. I just learned Back in Black, by AC DC! LOL.
Also, in other exciting news, I saved 52% on my groceries today. I've started clipping coupons. I know, I know, it's so dorky. But I'll tell you what--I spend $200 every time I shop, like clockwork. But not today. Today, I spent $126...And I got more than I usually get. Woo Hoo for buy one get one free!
My mother founded another company recently, called InvisionIt. It's focus is to help young people in their late teens (college students) and early twenties (young professionals) learn about their strengths and passions so that they can make more informed choices in their lives and careers. It's quite exciting and a truly brilliant idea. Here's a link to the site. I was listening to some of the audio clips on the site of my mom, and my son says, "That's grandma!" LOL.
I went to see the new James Bond movie yesterday, Quantum of Solace. I think I liked Casino Royale better, but it still was quite good. I liked it.
My last Saturday Night Movie® was The Man Who Knew Too Much, with James Stewart and Doris Day.
On the guitar front, I learned Julia, by John Lennon (Did I already mention that?) and I just learned Message in a Bottle, by The Police. Some of the chords in Julia are really difficult, not to form, but to get a clean strum because you have to press so hard. It takes some finger strength to play that song well. Message in a Bottle is suprisingly and pleasantly easy. But it rocks nonetheless.
I've started doing a Bible study with some of the ladies in my home fellowship group. We're studying the 10 Lies that Women Believe.
I've got some interesting things going on in the career front, but those are percolating, and I'm not ready to blog about those ideas yet.
My friends Brian and Denise dedicated their baby last night. Her name is Savannah Grace. What a cutie she is. I have some pictures to put up here, but I'm being lazy today.
Last night I took the kids shopping for new socks. I am so done playing the "find two socks that match out of these 500 in the basket" game and losing. So I'm throwing the basket of socks out and starting over. Victory is mine. Ha!
I took the kids to the NC Renaissance Fair today, in Huntersville, NC. It was a really nice time and, admittedly, better than I had expected.
There were various stages throughout the grounds with performers such as fire eaters, comic jugglers, etc. I took some pictures that I'll get around to putting up in the next week, hopefully.
There were all kinds of people dressed in medieval garb, eating turkey legs with their bare hands, and drinking tankards of beer. It was great fun to participate in. I plan to go again next year.
In this world where peace is such a rare commodity, it is a wise woman who refuses to take offense over the inconsequential things of life.
This week I learned Black Dog on guitar, by Led Zepplin. Very much fun. Next week I'll be learning the Beatles' Julia, from The White Album. I can't wait. I'm pretty blog-lazy these days.
That is all. Catz rule.
The kids and I went to Stone Mountain State Park yesterday with our friend Rebecca and her son, Clay.
We hiked up to the summit of the mountain, and back down again, which took about three hours. Poor Tristan fell into a stream near the end of the hike, and got his pants all wet.
Here are some pictures from the hike. It was beautiful and I definitely plan to go back again.
Last night I had a dream that I was in Canada -- A dream I am most grateful for, because it affords me the opportunity to fulfill it when I go to Canada for Christmas.
I was in Becker's, which was a corner store I used to patron regularly when I was a child. Popsicles were 10 cents, and my very favorite was chocolate.
Anywho, in my dream I was buying MacIntosh toffee, ketchup chips, popeye cigarettes (yes, also candy), coffee crisp, and other fabulous treats that aren't sold here in the U.S. I woke up elated at the fact that I can indeed stock up on such delights next month! I'm going to have to pack light so I can make room for my snacks. I can't wait. <HugeGrin />
Wow. I unintentionally took a two week hiatus from my blog. Not sure what happened there.... However, I am, without question, a creature of habit, and if for any reason my schedule changes and I get out of my routine, well, that's what happened.
I couldn't possibly blog about everything that has happened in the past two weeks and give it justice, and that's assuming my oft defunct memory could even produce enough details, or even conjure the events themselves.
Suffice it to say, things are going well. In recent days I;
- Took Tristan to the airport for a fun-filled week at Disney with my parents.
- Have been enjoying the time I'm spending with Justin while Tristan is in Florida.
- Have been missing Tristan while he's in Florida. LOL.
- Had a kick-butt performance review at work. Hooray!
- Have been appreciating how blessed I am.
- Started working from home 4 days a week now instead of 3. So fraught with awesomeness.
- Movies watched were: the first installation of the John Adams HBO series (finally, after weeks of trying to rent it), War, Inc., Leatherheads, 27 Dresses and Flags of Our Fathers. Tonight I'll be watching Cool Hand Luke.
- Went to the mountains and hiked 6+ miles in Chimney Rock Park. A resounding "boo" to people who don't even exercise and still beat me up the hill.
- Started reading the book of Joshua. I had forgotten about all the hard-to-pronounce words in that book. :-\
- Was so blessed by the worship at last night's service.
- Plan to join a home fellowship, starting today.
- Started reading a new book that is giving me some fascinating insight into how men communicate, listen, and purportedly wish to be treated. It's pretty eye-opening.
- Learned how to play a super cool Red Hot Chili Pepper's song on guitar. Boo-yah.
- Took Justin, the soldier, trick-or-treating with his friend Andrew (also a soldier) and had a nice walk/talk with Caroline.
- Booked my tickets to Buffalo to spend Christmas in Canada with my folks (December 22-28). I can't WAIT!
- Felt so heavy-hearted for Jimmy and Carrie Totherow at church, for losing their 6-week-old baby girl, Eva.
- Gathered up my boxes for Operation Christmas Child. I love this program!
- Ate my mom's fantabulous homemade biscuits for dinner, and breakfast. She sent them with my dad when I met him at the airport to take Tristan. Mmmm.
- Studied up on the candidates for both the presidential and state elections so that I can make more informed choices.
- Only ate two pieces of candy from Hallowe'en so far! (A box of Dots that Justin gave me, and a Milky Way Midnight).
- Have managed to keep my apartment really, really clean!
- Bought an awesome new quilt for my bed.
- Have been digging the smell of my new root beer float candle.
- Downloaded Wishes, by Owen Richards. A wonderful collection of solo piano songs. It was playing in the hotel room in Chimney Rock and I liked it very much, so I bought it. I'm listening to it now, in fact.
I love the weekend. I'm going to go make some tea now, and enjoy this beautiful morning. Yay for setting the clock back an hour!
