Hank Zipzer
Today was the first day of school. Both kids had a good report of the events of the day. Tristan's teacher won the teacher of the year award last year, and Justin said his teacher is nice. Justin had homework this evening to read independently for 30 minutes so he's reading one of the Magic Tree House books.... Tonight on the Titanic, I think it's called.
I was reading some information on Dyslexia today and it was surprising the number of Presidents mentioned that were dyslexic: JFK, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Woodrow Wilson. Here's the list of famous people in history with dyslexia. I told Tristan that having dyslexia could land his picture on a coin some day.
Henry Winkler, who also has dyslexia, has written 14 books about a boy named Hank Zipzer, a young 5th grader with dyslexia. I'm going to order these for Tristan! His message is that how you learn does not define your intelligence.
