Yoga

As much as I hate yoga, I think I'm going to try to incorporate it into my exercise routine. Truly, the only reason I hate it is because it hurts. And it hurts because I'm inflexible. Theoretically, if I do yoga, I will become more flexible, it will stop hurting, and I will begin to like it. That sounds like good old-fashioned logic to me.

My Feet Hurt

Just got back from a 2 mile walk with the fam.

Last night I watched "Where in the World is Osama bin Laden", and it was a pretty entertaining documentary.

Morgan Spurlock displayed his usual wit, and even though the conversations had a serious theme, he still injected humor into the situations. I liked the beginning, where he learned survival training and self defense techniques, as well as learned some choice Arabic phrases. In particular, it gave me a chuckle when he asked, How do I say: "don't take me, take the cameraman"?

Church was pretty cool today. A couple actually got married during the service, which was unusual, but was pretty neat. The background was that two weeks ago they did not have a personal relationship with Christ. They both came to know the Lord, and felt convicted about living together and having kids outside of the commitment of marriage. So, they got married today.

Mmm...Angel food cake with raspberries and ice cream.

Introduction #1

Hissing and growling ensued.

We'll try again tomorrow.

Michael Phelps

I guess here's proof that you can eat as much as you want, as long as you get sufficient exercise to burn it off. I can't imagine eating this much food at one sitting. Of course, I can't imagine swimming laps for five hours a day, six days a week, either.

Birthday Gift Ideas

Since my birthday is approaching in just over a month, I thought I'd offer a gift suggestion. Perhaps all my blog readers could even pitch in together!

Sarah Palin

John McCain announced his choice for VP yesterday, Sarah Palin, and I may just end up voting now after all. In fact, I think I shall. Yeah, I know the VP isn't the one that you should be voting for, but McCain *is* pretty old, and it is a stressful job. I'm just teasing.

But seriously, I like his VP pick. I know the select American women that like having the option to dispose of their children instead of taking responsibility for their choices may not like her, but since I'm conservative and a supporter of gun rights, she's A-OK by me.

Integration Time

I'm a little nervous on how it's going to go, but I think it's getting to be time to slowly start integrating Milo into the house. I've had him for a week now, but it's a good time because I don't have to go into the office until Wednesday, so I have a lot of time to attend to the process. My dad was telling me that he read it's good to introduce two cats in an environment that is unfamiliar to both of them, I guess so that you eliminate territorial claims and they find solace in eachother when they're nervous. He's comfortable with us, but he's still very nervous. I took him into another room yesterday and he became very tense and started to cry a bit. He's only comfortable in the bathroom so far. I bought some cat treats to create a reward system for each interaction the cats have with eachother.

Where in the World is Osama bin Laden?

Geez...I almost wrote "Where in the World is Barack Obama?" I always mix up Osama and Obama. They're just too similar.

Anyway, Saturday Movie Night® brings Morgan Spurlock's documentary on Osama Bin Laden. He's the same documentarian that brought us Super Size Me.

Here's the synopsis:

If Morgan Spurlock has learned anything from over 30 years of movie-watching, its that if the world needs saving, its best done by one lone man willing to face danger head on to take it down, action hero style. So, with no military experience, knowledge or expertise, he sets off to do what the CIA, FBI and countless bounty hunters have failed to do: find the worlds most wanted man. Why take on such a seemingly impossible mission? Simple-he wants to make the world safe for his soon to be born child. But before he finds Osama bin Laden, he first needs to learn where he came from, what makes him tick, and most importantly, what exactly created bin Laden to begin with.

It seems really interesting, so we'll see how it goes.

Best. Day. Ever.

Wow. I just don't know if it's possible to have a day any better than today was.

First, I got this amazing email from our Director of the Project Management Office. He sent it to my two bosses, and copied me on it. I'm working on a project with him, and he emailed them this big ol' gushing email telling them his opinion of my leadership abilities, dependability, enthusiasm, and stuff like that. It was very heart warming, and my boss forwarded it to his boss, which I thought was very nice.

Second, I got an email from a woman who said she has been working on making my "Put Your Cap On" idea into a reality. If you aren't familiar, I wrote a proposal to the president of my company to suggest an idea to be implemented across the company; she loved it, and it is being implemented company-wide. They want to have a meeting with me to show me what they've accomplished and get my input and feedback. That was incredible.

Third, I got a promotion today. I'm currently a developer, and I was promoted to a lead developer position. In this role I will oversee projects, manage the work efforts of other developers, be accountable for project deliverables, review other developer's code to ensure adherence to quality and standards, and promote builds from the development environment to the test environment. With the new role comes new digs in a corner window cube, which is the best deal of it all in my opinion. Hehe.

Fourth, the comapny catered a free lunch for employees today.

Anyway, it was a fabulous day! Weeeeeeeeeeee!

Blog Post Count

Holy mackerel! My blog received a record high 180 views today. That either means I've got a larger readership than I thought (I honestly have no clue who reads my blog, or how many) or I have a stalker. LOL.

Update: I ended the day at 207.

Um, humility...please?

What's up with people these days that they just can't STAND for anyone else to do well, or get accolades and attention?

First, it's Jennifer Lopez whining that Michael Phelps is getting too much attention, when people should be paying attention to *her* because she's training to participate in some triathalon. Here's the snippet on that story:

“Lopez, who appeared on “Good Morning America” Aug. 18 to discuss her preparations for the Malibu Triathlon, was overheard saying after the segment that she “couldn’t understand why everyone is talking about that swimmer,” according to a GMA source. “She couldn’t come up with (eight-time gold-medal winner Michael) Phelps’ name, and then she yammered on about how she was the one training for a triathlon just six months after giving birth, and how that was the big story right now, not ‘the swimmer.’ ”

Now, this fool is whining that people are referring to Phelps as the best athlete in the world, when he thinks *he's* the best. What is UP with that? How do people say these things, in print no less, and not be incredibly embarrassed at the lack of humility coming out of their mouths? How do they read these articles about themselves and their ridiculously petty comments, and say, "Uh-huh. I know that's right.", instead of slinking under the bed in humiliation? I'm absolutely dumbfounded by this type of thing.

This is a really big world. There are plenty of opportunities for lots and lots of people to get some pats on the back. Get over yourself, people.

I Love Three Day Weekends!

Happy Friday to all!

As a side-bar straight from left field, I have to say my friend Beverly is so funny. I was reading her "What are you doing right now?" comment last night on Facebook and it said something along the lines of "Time to go make dinner for the convalescent." Ron is at home and recovering from quadruple bypass surgery, as most of you who read my blog know. I love that she retains her unique brand of humor, even through everything she's been through recently.

Today my work is having a new hire luncheon. I'm thinking that free meals is right up there at the top with the things that bring me the most joy in life. I love being simple.

In guitar news, my teacher, Jason, is learnin' me a super funkified, awesome blues song. It's really amazing how in two months of lessons, he has helped me propel to a whole new level of guitar playing competency. Now I understand how people jamming together on a regular basis help refine eachother's skills. Taking lessons once you already know the basics of guitar and can play is so great because you aren't spending all your time on things like learning chords, and strumming techniques, and all that jazz.

Looking forward to work today, getting the majority of my current deliverables wrapped up, and then relaxing hard on the weekend!

Peace.

That's a Lotta Water!

I got my water bill today. I always play this guess-how-much-my-water-bill-is game with myself when I'm opening it. So today I was guessing about $28. It's always somewhere around there, give or take a couple bucks. When I opened it up and read $1,120.00, I was like, "Wow! That would be a lot of water!"

Obviously the bill is in error. Gee, you don't suppose it's possible they'll say, "I'm sorry ma'am, that's what the computer says, so that's what you owe", do you? LOL.

A Nice Ideal.

“At the start of this campaign, we had a very simple idea: Change does not start from the top down. It starts from the bottom up,” Obama said.

Too bad that's wrong. And anyone who has had a job should know this. Take a look around your place of employ and see the power of the people in action.

I don't have anything personal against Obama, I'm just tired of politicians trying to manipulate me into thinking a) they care what I think, or anything about my life, and b) that I actually have any sort of clout once they're in office.

Running for president is nothing more than the crown jewel in a Ivy League lawyer's career. Period.

Musical Garbage

I know I usually try to be positive on this blog, and I try not to gripe, but I am going to make an exception.

I never, ever watch VH1, or MTV, or any of those other stupid music video channels. I was working out over at the clubhouse, and I was a captive audience to VH1's Top 20 something-or-other and couldn't change the channel. One piece of shallow garbage after another.

Here were two examples...

When I Grow Up

When I grow up
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star
I wanna be in movies

When I grow up
I wanna see the world
Drive nice cars
I wanna have Groupies

When I grow up
Be on TV
People know me
Be on magazines

When I grow up
Fresh and clean
Number one chick when I step out on the scene

Hmmm...Nothing like groupies and nice cars as your life's goal.

The crown jewel, however, was this mess, by Katy Perry (whose own parents, coincidentally, called the song "shameful and disgusting.")

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal, it's innocent

That's just the kind of song we should all be running around singing, don't you think? Especially our pre-teen daughters.

This is the nonsense people are filling their heads with these days. Garbage IN, garbage OUT.
