Pardon My French, But...

My new guitar is freakin' SWEET!

With a portion of my work bonus I treated myself to a Marshall MG15CDR amp with reverb and a new Ibanez AS73 Artcore electric guitar. It's a maple hollowbody with humbucker pickups. I may never leave the house again.

I Won! I Won!

I won the Regal Cinema prize pack for my entry stating why I love living in this apartment community! Yay! I won 4 tickets to Kung Fu Panda, 4 tickets to WALL-E (oops...Just saw that last night), and a bunch of other items such as gift cards, a beach bag, goodies, "you don't mess with the Zohan" squirt guns and other miscellaneous stuff. Winning free things rocks!

QI

There's this show on the BBC called QI (which stands for Quite Interesting). The concept of the show is, indeed, quite interesting, and it's pretty funny at times as well. The wiki entry describes the concept better than I can.

Here are two episodes from Series 5:

Episode 2
Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Episode 4

Part 3

Bella/WALL-E

This week's movie: Bella

Speaking of movies, we went to see WALL-E tonight. It was cute, and I mostly enjoyed it, but it's definitely not in the top eschelon of Pixar's movies. I ended up getting two free tickets because the kid at the ticket window overcharged me for the kid's tickets. All I wanted was my coupons back (worth a total of $6.00 in discounts), since they weren't applied, but they said they couldn't be used again once scanned, so he gave me two free tickets for the loss of my coupons, the inconvenience, and probably because the kid working customer service before he took over was being pretty snotty about it. I just wanted my coupons back, but since they were no longer usable, I accepted the free tickets.

Looks Like I'll Be Saving Some Gas Money.

My boss asked for volunteers to work from home every day for about three months. They need the office space for a couple hundred temporary associates. I volunteered. I'm going to save a boat load in gas money.

Mayer & Clapton

In preparation for my upcoming John Mayer concert, I've been watching loads of video on the web. I came across this fantastic gem.

The Dip

My boss's boss's boss lent me a really neat little book called The Dip: The Little Book That Teaches You When to Quit (and When to Stick) today. It's a short book, and I just finished reading it. What a very interesting little book. It's about why the advice "never quit" is bad advice, and how quitting can actually be an intelligent strategy.

Never quit?

Never quit wetting your bed? Never quit your high school job at Burger King? Never quit funding and marketing an obsolete product?

The bottom line is that quitting something as a short-term strategy is a bad idea, but quitting for the long-term is an excellent idea. In the words of the author: Never quit something with great long-term potential just because you can't deal with the stress of the moment.

The book teaches you how to recognize situations that you should quit, and those that you should stick out for the reward on the other side. It's about quitting the right stuff at the right time. Not only does it help you realize when to quit and when to stick, but it helps you to learn to be more thoughtful and choosier about which journeys you start in the first place.

I highly recommend reading it.

I'm So Excited!

I emailed the president of the company I work for with an idea that I came up with a few weeks back. The long and short of it is, she loved it! She emailed me back and wants to introduce it to the organization! I'm so excited to have the opportunity to contribute to something that could end up being a lasting legacy in the organization.

Detox Scam.

Caveat Emptor. You've heard of those therapies that pull toxins from your body out of your feet? The scam is revealed here.

OK, I lied.

I'm not watching The Magnificent Seven tomorrow night. I'm going to watch Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Next week will be The Mag Seven. My mother said Prada was funny and I'm looking forward to a laugh after all these melons I've been watching, of late.

Happy 64th Dad!

Today is my dad's birthday. I called him from work today to sing, "When I'm 64", by the Beatles. It's a good sign he didn't hang up on me. Wink

Anyway, it's finally Friday. How I love the weekend. I need to clean my place, and do some serious relaxing as well. I had a crazy week at work.

I signed the kids up for the After School program at the Y, and I only need it two days a week now that I'm telecommuting. That means my child care costs during the year are going to go from $640/month from this year's after school costs, down to $280/month. How awesome is that?!?

What's with all the Loneliness in Japan?

Robot girlfriend weirdness

Piggy bank boyfriend weirdness

Booming Elder Porn weirdness {shudder}

Lap Pillow weirdness

This is all so bizarre.

Crystal Coast, Here I Come

I just booked a vacation to North Carolina's Crystal Coast. We're going to go to Atlantic Beach for a couple of days, and then to New Bern, NC for a couple of days to stay on the lake and chill out. We're going to visit Jason and Tawna Jacobs, since they live only 18 miles from where we're staying the second part of the trip. Actually, I booked this trip as an excuse to head up there and see them, since they live so close now, and we're going to visit the NC Aquarium while we're there. I'm looking forward to it!

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Today marks 43 years of marriage for my mom and dad! WOW! Last week was my grandparents anniversary. They have been married 68 years! Double WOW!

Plus-Size Model?

OK, so I'm looking at this article of plus-sized fashions for summer. Yeah, I know I'm not plus-size, I was just curious to see what kinds of dresses they had, cause I'm into dresses these days. I didn't care if they were plus size. So here's a dress that starts at size 14 and goes up from there to about size 44. Check out the "plus sized" model, wearing the dress. Geez.
