Poetry Cafe

My seven year old's class put on a poetry cafe yesterday at school and the parents were invited. It started at 7:40AM and went until about 8:05AM. The kids did such a great job and it was so much fun to hear all the various poems they had written. The kids ran the entire program, and two cute little girls announced each reader, who would then proceed to the front of the classroom to read their poem aloud to the audience. Justin was the second poet to take stage and I hadn't heard his poem before hand and wasn't expecting that I was in the poem. It was so touching that it made my eyes well up!

Here is his poem, titled "Justin"

Justin. It means; happy, smart, strong

It is the number 100

It is like blueberries jumping on a trampoline

It is a memory of my mom,

who taught me to be friendly

She said to be nice to your friends

My name is Justin. It means I believe in trusting

Officers!

This must have been the happiest day of Justin's young life. He *loves* police officers. He goes out of his way to say hello to any policeman he sees. We ran into these gentlemen at Speed Street, and they kindly agreed to pose for a photo for their young admirer. Click to see the original size photo.

Tristan's New Guitar

Here's a link to the guitar I bought Tristan today. It's an Ibanez, and it's sweet.

Justin and I....

are taking lessons, too. We're joining Tristan and I'll be taking guitar, and Justin is taking drum lessons. Yeah, I know I already play guitar, but I don't know any guitar music theory. So I figured I should stop being lazy and learn properly. I'm actually looking forward to it. Tristan and I have lessons on Thursday, and Justin has his lesson on Tuesday.

Goodbye Dear Goldie Girl

Sadly, my goldfish that I've had for 8 years passed away today. I had a good cry, and now it's time to go bury her in the yard. Here are some pictures of my funny little fish.

All the Birds Have Gone Away...

The last little bird has learned to fly. The nest was empty yesterday. They're still hanging around, and visiting their nest once and a while for a rest from flying, but it's just a matter of days until they're gone for good. It was fun watching them while it lasted.

Guitar Lessons for Deutsche

I signed Tristan up for guitar lessons yesterday; every Thursday at 5:30, conveniently located in the same plaza where they go for their after school program. Justin is not pleased that he's too young to take them. He feels like Tristan gets to do all the fun stuff because he's older.

My goldfish (Goldy-girl, as I call her) was sick when I got home from work yesterday. I'm realizing that I have to leave my air conditioning on on warm days when I'm not home until I can get out and buy a chiller for her tank, assuming I can nurse her back to health. I think the water was at a temperature that was hard for her to tolerate and it caused her stress. She's doing better right now than yesterday. I've done two water changes and put a conditioner in her tank to improve the water quality. I'm hoping that she pulls through and I'm doing everything I can to make sure she does.

Memorial Day Fun

We ordered a pizza and ate it along the shore of the pond at my office complex. We took a stroll around the pond, and then got our bikes and went for a ride to Baskin Robbins. (Mmmm....Root beer float). Then we rode back home and I made a taco casserole dish thingy for dinner that was quite tasty. Now it's back to serious business of cleaning and doing laundry. It was a nice relaxing weekend (except for that I got a sunburn)!

Oh! I almost forgot! The Saturday Movie was Blood Diamond, with Leonardo DiCaprio. It was a pretty good movie.

A New Baby Bird Learned to Fly

This baby bird learned to fly today. This was taken right before it took flight. Isn't she adorable (click the image for a closer look)?!

Another Visit to the Ducks

We went to visit the ducks at my office today and had lots of fun feeding them and hanging out with them. The came right up to us so the pictures are really up close. When we were leaving, they tagged along behind us on the sidewalk. Seven ducks walking along behind us; what a sight that was! You can click on this image to enlarge the photo, and view the rest of them in the Miscellaneous photo gallery on this site. There are some great pictures in there.

Spielberg Movie Angers Russia's Communist Party

I read this article today and got quite a chuckle at this comment:

Moscow Communist lawmaker Andrei Andreyev said Saturday "it is very disturbing if talented directors want to provoke a new Cold War."

I would argue that what is "very disturbing" is the absurd notion that anything coming out of the entertainment industry should, or could, provoke a new Cold War.

If it's any consolation to you Mr. Andreyev, the majority of people that will see this movie are only interested in seeing Harrison Ford kick butt at 66 years old, and won't even be clued into any of the political nuances, intended or otherwise.

It's growing very tiresome how bloody touchy everyone is.

Toothless Wonder

Justin lost his right front tooth yesterday, bringing the count of front teeth to zero. Tristan took a picture of him on his camera so I don't have it right now, but I do have this picture of him missing the first one he lost.
